   Diagnosis MS
A preferably confident diagnosis is of utmost importance for a well timed initiation of therapeutical measures to favourably affect the course of disease.

The following are the most common diagnosis methods:
List course of disease
Neurological examination
Liquordiagnostic
AEP; VEP and SEP
CT
MRT
From this composition of examination methods a reliable diagnostic evaluation can be undertaken and every patient with a strong suspicion of MS can immediately receive medical and therapeutical treatment.

After the evaluation of the diagnostic findings we differentiate between the following degrees of reliability on diagnosis:
Assured MS
Presumptive MS
Questionable MS
Assured MS can be asssumed when the Liquordiagnostic shows, that a typical inflammation exists in the central nervous system. In addition to that it has to be proven that the inflammation appears in several parts of the white substance of the CNS. This evidence can normally be proven with the magnetic resonance imaging and/or the measurement of the evoke potentials (AEP; VEP und SEP).

However, if one of the above named citeria is not fullfilled - as for example if the inflammation can only be proven in one part of the
CNS then we speak of a Presumptive MS.

If in the whole course of disease only one symptom of disease has occured, e.g. a visual nerve inflammation, and other possible causes can be excluded, we speak of a Questionable MS.

Especially the technical developments within the last two decades have definitely improved the confidence of MS-diagnoses. However, it is still problematic and always holds a rest of error possibility. After all expert knowledge and experience of the physician are essential additives to the technical examinations.
